Gah, sorry for not doing a review in a long long time – I’ve been very very very very very busy and forgot about my weebly page.
Anyway, there is some Great News! – as James May would say – and no, it isn’t about the Dacia Sandero. (Or cars for that matter) Soon a very special review is coming.. about… well… wait and see… Anyway, shall we take a look at a figure that I have had since 2015, and BOY do I hate it. What is it, I hear you ask? It’s Masterpiece (MP-05) Sunstorm! *Note* - this is a Hasbro figure and follows Hasbro MP Numbers. Here’s le box, from a picture pinched of ‘dez interwebz’! It doesn’t look too bad, apart the picture on the box is using the old version of the mold, while this version uses the current version of the mold. Confused? Google/bing/yahoo/whatever it. You’ll find more info there. I also have no idea why there is Chinese text on the box. Right, on the le plane mode. It doesn’t look bad eh? It has a very cool look to it, and is quite big. It comes with a little pilot-man which you can put in the cockpit, which is very awesome. He also has a stand which can be used for the plane mode but annoyingly there seems to be no way to use it for that mode. (I used blue tack so I can display it like that) Now the Takara version had better details and came with more accessories as well as a better box. This paint scheme is quite poor compared to the Takara version because it has these flames painted onto the wings, and it looks really horrible especially when you compare it to the Takara version, which has white striping’s and yellow wings instead of yellow flamed wings. Apart from that however, the plane mode looks really good. Right, time for the rant. (Comon you knew it would happen, eventually…) The transforming for this figure, is shall we say, bad. It’s very bad. It’s COMPLETELY RUBBISH! Let me explain what I mean. It doesn’t fully transform without forcing parts in place, it is very easy to scratch the paint and it feels easy to transform except when parts get stuck and start to scrap across the figure and damage it. Right, now for robot mode. He looks very good! There is no way of securing his wings, so I had to blue tack them, otherwise they flop down. He looks very good on his stand in robot mode, where you CAN actually display it without blue tacking it! Sunstorm is very poseable, except for the fact that his joints can’t really move very easily because the ratchet joints holding them are VERY hard to move properly. His head is made of gold plastic – but no worries - he hasn’t got GPS (gold plastic syndrome) – which affected many transformers throughout the G2 and Beast Wars era. He comes with 2 null rays which are ball jointed onto the arms and some missiles but they cannot be launched or be put on the arms, but they CAN be placed on the wings. He also comes with a clip which I lost, I think it was for if you had the mini Megatron gun from MP01/20th anniversary Optimus, so it could be held by Sunstorm. I don’t have it, so it makes no real difference to me. Final thoughts – He looks good, but he’s still a poor figure, I’d only buy him on de cheap, or the Takara release. Not recommended.
